Celebrating 15 Years of Organic Excellence!

Dear Beloved Supporters of Organic,

In my role as the executive director of the Canada Organic Trade Association, I feel a rush of joy as I share this remarkable milestone with you. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Canada Organic Regime (COR). Established to uphold the highest standards of organic integrity, COR has blossomed into a globally respected system while also earning the status of the most in-demand sustainability claim in Canada. As we commemorate this anniversary, we celebrate not just a logo, but a shared commitment to consumer trust and creating products that are in harmony with nature.

Our festivities will stretch from June 23rd, a week before the anniversary date of June 30th, and flow into Organic Month in September. It’s a chance for us all to come together and revel in our shared values.

For me, the organic movement goes beyond labels; it’s a heartfelt dedication to nurturing our planet. It’s about cultivating food that not only nourishes our bodies but also preserves the delicate balance of our ecosystems.

In my journey, I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of organic practices. The standards were built to breathe life into our soils, support biodiversity, and pave the way for a more sustainable future. But more than that, it’s about the people—the farmers, the businesses, and the consumers—who make this movement thrive. Together, we’re weaving a tapestry of integrity, transparency, and compassion within our food system.

Our campaign isn’t just about looking back; it’s about celebrating the pioneers, embracing newcomers, and igniting a passion for organic living. Let’s unite our voices, sharing stories and insights, as we pave the way for the next 15 years of growth and innovation.

As we reflect on our journey so far, I’m filled with gratitude for each of you. Your unwavering efforts have made this milestone possible. And as we gaze towards the horizon, I’m buoyed by the endless possibilities that lie ahead. Together, let’s continue to champion sustainability, health, and respect for our planet.

About the Author: Tia is the Executive Director of the Canada Organic Trade Association. With extensive experience working in the organic food industry, Tia co-founded Camino (La Siembra Co-operative) in 1999, going on to become the organic and Fairtrade cocoa company’s Director of Sales until 2009, when she joined Fairtrade Canada. As its Business Development and Licensing Director, she led strategy, building the not-for-profit’s membership base and encouraging sustainable & ethical sourcing standards. In 2013, she moved over to Fairtrade America, where as its Chief Operating Officer, she successfully developed advocacy initiatives and grew U.S. market opportunities for small farmers via the Fairtrade model. Tia joined COTA as the Executive Director in March 2016.
